Congressman Ruppersberger's e-Newsletter: Special Edition
As Ranking Member of the House Intelligence Committee, I have become increasingly concerned about the presence of Chinese telecommunications companies with ties to the Chinese government operating in the United States. Committee Chairman Mike Rogers and I launched a full-scale investigation of the potential threat these companies pose to our national security. As both Democrats and Republicans, we feel it is our responsibility to look critically at foreign companies whose governments continually and unapologetically conduct cyber espionage against American enterprises.
We already know the Chinese are aggressively hacking into our nation’s computer networks, threatening our critical infrastructure and stealing secrets worth millions of dollars in intellectual property from American companies. This jeopardizes our national security and hurts U.S. competitiveness in the world market, costing our country countless jobs.
This Sunday, both Chairman Rogers and I will be discussing this serious matter on CBS’s “60 Minutes” at 7 p.m. The interview will precede the release of our investigation’s results on Monday. I encourage you to tune in.
