Congratulations to Senator Mikulski
As the 112th Congress officially convenes today, Maryland Senator Barbara Mikulski will become the Senate’s longest-serving woman in Senate history. I want to congratulate her on this extraordinary accomplishment and thank her for her dedicated service to the people of our state.
For the past eight years, both Senator Mikulski and I have served on the same committees in our respective chambers, the Appropriations and Intelligence Committees. I have enjoyed working with her not only on issues of national security, but on securing much-needed funding for Maryland. Senator Mikulski fights for critical resources to improve our roads, schools, police forces and the Chesapeake Bay. She is a tireless advocate.
Members of Congress in both the House and Senate and in both political parties have come to value the wisdom and experience of Senator Mikulski, who was also the Senate’s first female to be elected in her own right. I am very proud of her and wish her many more years of success.
