Ruppersberger:  One Year Later, Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is Delivering for Marylanders

November 16, 2022

Investments total $2.6 billion in Maryland so far

(Washington, DC)  – Marking the first anniversary of the landmark Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, Congressman C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger today highlighted  the historic federal investments – totaling $2.6 billion in Maryland so far – that are already creating good-paying jobs and transforming local communities.

“One year ago today, we delivered a once-in-a-generation investment to create millions of good-paying jobs repairing, rebuilding and revitalizing our communities,” said Congressman Ruppersberger.  “The infrastructure investment law is already putting shovels in the ground and Marylanders to work in good-paying jobs — fixing roads, upgrading public transit, slashing commute times, cleaning up pollution and more.  As Marylanders mark the extraordinary progress of the last year, I remain committed to ensuring these investments continue to reach our communities as quickly as possible.”

Decades of underinvestment have left Maryland communities in urgent need of repair and modernization.  The American Society of Civil Engineers gave Maryland’s infrastructure an overall grade of “C”— including a D+ for its transit systems.

The Infrastructure Law is already making progress on this backlog, delivering federal funds for a range of vital projects in Maryland including:

  • $1.8 billion for Maryland roads, bridges, roadway safety, and major projects;
  • $347 million to improve public transportation options across Maryland;
  • $144 million to provide clean and safe water across Maryland and improve water infrastructure;
  • $57 million for clean energy, energy efficiency, and power projects in Maryland;
  • $31 million for Maryland airports;
  • $22.7 million to build out a network of electric vehicle charging stations across Maryland;
  • $9.4 million to upgrade Maryland school busses to zero-emissions models;
  • $4.8 million for Maryland ports and waterways.
