Ruppersberger Issues Statement on Resignation of National Security Advisor Michael Flynn
(Washington, DC) — Congressman C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger today issued the following statement on the resignation of President Donald Trump’s national security advisor, Michael Flynn:
“The resignation of Mike Flynn is good news for the security of our country. We live in a dangerous world and the President needs an honest National Security Advisor who isn’t under a cloud of suspicion. Americans now deserve to know if Flynn was operating under anyone else’s authority.
As former Ranking Member of the House Intelligence Committee, I am truly alarmed by reports that some intelligence agencies and our allies are withholding crucial sensitive information for fear that it will flow right back to Moscow.
I am urging the FBI to intensify its investigation into any and all connections between the Trump and Putin administrations. I also ask my colleagues in House leadership to launch a bipartisan, independent Congressional investigation into Russia’s influence on the Administration and the election. And, I am once again calling on President Trump to remove his chief political strategist – Steve Bannon – from the National Security Council and reinstate the Director of National Intelligence and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to restore some semblance of respectability to the organization.”
