Invitation to Town Hall on Sequestration
As we continue to urge House leadership to take action to avert across-the-board government spending cuts known as sequestration, I would like to invite you to participate in a Twitter Town Hall to discuss this issue with myself and other members of the Maryland Delegation. Tomorrow, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m., you can participate in a conversation about how sequestration may impact you and your family. Follow me on Twitter at @Call_Me_Dutch and submit your questions or comments to me by using this hashtag: #AskMDDems. To follow the Twitter Town Hall questions and responses, follow @AskMDDems.
If you do not use Twitter, you can e-mail your question to AskMDDems@gmail.com.
With only two days until sequestration is set to take effect, I continue to call on the House to take immediate action to avert these arbitrary spending cuts, which could have a devastating impact on our economy and national security. Among the many harmful impacts these cuts could have in Maryland:
- Nearly 140,000 of workers at the 77 federal facilities in Maryland would face furloughs.
- Maryland will lose about $14.4 million in funding education, putting the jobs of about 200 teachers at risk.
- More than 9,000 unemployed Marylanders will lose job-search assistance.
- We’ll lose nearly $50 million in funding for medical research, which supports thousands of jobs in Maryland.
We must all work together to avert this crisis. I hope you will join me tomorrow to discuss this important issue during the Twitter Town Hall at 4:00 p.m. tomorrow. I look forward to your questions and comments.
